Ok- let me preface this by saying that I absolutely endorse couples working out together. I think it is such an important and special habit to get into and it really does bring you closer together. I am also a supporter of people being active no matter how much time or what it is that they do.
Having said that, I cannot stand pushy gym owners who feed you crap just to make a buck.
A friend of mine recently had such an experience when being gym-mugged by some complete moron. She and her fiancé were doing a trial period for a bootcamp which evidently included an "assessment" where this guy went on to tell her all of the "problem areas" bootcamp could help with... let me tell you- this girl is a former soccer player that is probably a size zero. To which he concluded that since she lost weight since playing soccer it must certainly be because she was on steroids while playing. This was not the extent of the bullshit he fed them but he basically insulted their intelligence just to sell them on a bootcamp that they absolutely needed.
I can't stand people like this. Recently she received a "Valentines Day" email from this guy and after reading it I had the urge to respond in an equally irritating way.
This is how I imagine it might go....please see my responses bold following excerpts from his actual email.
Valentine’s Day is here. What are your plans? Are you one to follow the tradition of flowers, chocolate, and dinner? Or are you one who thinks Valentine’s Day is one of those made up holidays that are annoying? I say we take Valentine's Day and get rid of some of teh sweets and spice it up a little. After all isn't the day also about love? And what's love without a little spice?- Is this a rhetorical question because i don't really know what the answer is. Are we talking about spices? Are we talking about love? Are we talking about sex? Regardless, my answer is hot sauce.
Instead of spending a ton of money on way overpriced flowers why don’t you grab your partner and work out together. There are a lot of exercises that you and your partner can do together either at home or at boot camp. -It's a good thing flower shops don't know about the affordable price of bootcamp or else they would go out of business! Men everywhere are going to be kicking themselves when they realize they've been buying flowers all this time as a gesture of their love instead of buying their wives and girlfriends a series of bootcamps- does the bootcamp package also come with a card?
"Why don't you put down the chocolate and go workout instead fatty. Happy Valentines Day, I love you!"
Working out with a partner is a great way to spend quality time with each other; it's a great way to bond with a partner and have some fun. If you can get to boot camp before your evening plans that would be a great way to start your night and then you won’t have to feel so guilty about eating a delicious meal and a yummy dessert or chocolates afterwards. -OHHHH is that what that feeling is?? Guilt? I thought it was joy and satisfaction.
But, just in case you can't make it to a boot camp together then how about doing a fast workout together at home before you get dazzled up to go out. -Oh fantastic! My boyfriend is ALWAYS asking me what we can do together at home before we get dazzled up. You can do a fast 20 minute workout that will give you energy and make you feel great.
Ok, so let’s get started with your pre Valentine’s Day dinner workout. Remember, just like at boot camp, you want to perform the exercises with proper form and with as little rest as possible to burn the most calories.
Exercise #1
10 Pushups side by side with your partner then immediately do a side plank facing each other and hold for at least 45 seconds.
-Should we be making kissy faces at each other during this time? Will that burn more calories?
Rest for 15 seconds and then repeat 10 more push-ups and switch to the opposite side when doing the plank.
-But won't this mean that we are now facing away from each other? How are we supposed to share in this moment if we are facing away? Should we shout sweet nothings to each other instead? Will that burn more calories?
Exercise #2
Jump Squat 10 times, standing side by side with your partner then
20 military style sit-ups (hold your partner’s ankles if necessary).
Rest 15 seconds
-Can we do them holding hands? Will that burn more calories?
When you and your partner have completed the above exercises take five minutes to do total body stretching. This will help strengthen and relax your muscles and provide more flexibility.
Now you guys are ready to go. It’s time to get ready and celebrate your Valentine’s Day in whatever fashion you have planned. You have had some fun (call it a little foreplay if you like) before your date. Your muscles are pumped and metabolism is working. You can enjoy a nice meal and even some dessert. - Thank god! My boyfriend will be really glad he doesn't have to be on suicide watch tonight after dessert.
However, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to end on February 14th. You and your partner can work out together as much as you would like.- We can?!!
Having a partner makes exercise more enjoyable and that is one of the reasons why our boot camps are so popular.- Are you sure it's not because of these amazing emails??!
Bring your partner with you so both of you receive the benefits of group exercise every time you work out. you will see that it's like Valentine's Day every day. -Just what men want to hear! Well, with the exception that we won’t suggest going out to dinner and eating chocolate! -Of course not, that lifestyle is sinful.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
